Letter to High School Guidance Counselors

To whomever it may concern,

Hello, my name is Christina Bongiorni, I am 27 years old and a graduate of Gordon College.  Through things that have happened in my life, I have learned the importance of the will within.  This power can motivate anyone through whatever kind of situation they are in.  I hope that the story of my struggles can inspire students to keep working hard in school, no matter what their circumstances are.

My story begins giving the students an understanding of who I was.  I explain that I was an honors student, involved in sports, clubs, ect.  I was busy with school work, practice, friends and babysitting.  Day to day, I lived by a busy schedule.  On October 23, 2002, I was walking from the parking lot and crossed in the crosswalk in front of the school.  Despite the precautions that I took, I was hit by an oncoming car and I was thrown 70 feet.  Resulting in a traumatic brain injury, my life did a tailspin.  To this day, I now struggle with walking, the mobility of my left arm and most importantly my short term memory.

Today, because of my perseverance; I have graduated from college.  Assignments took additional time.  Papers took many revisions.  Exams took much studying.  Due to my tenacity and diligent studying, I got through the semesters successfully to achieve my diploma.  In the end, I have learned the importance of hard work and determination.  I hope to tell my story to students to inspire them to work hard.  I tell my story to give students the drive to keep going, through hard assignments, ect.  I will prove to them, with a personal example, that anyone can achieve success if the drive is there.

My presentation is partnered with a slideshow of pictures.  This contains pictures of myself and life; before, during and after the accident.  Having these images aid the telling of my story, illustrating the events that I speak of.  I then open it up for questions from the students at the end.

I invite you to visit my website to explore what I have to offer.  I have pictures that are displayed there, of prior to my accident, hospital, after and even of past presentations.
